• What are your current (or future) challenges in teaching?

    Hi Hendra, thank you for sharing your experience!

    I’m a fine art teacher in a Tunisian middle school. One of the major challenges we face here is the lack of resources, especially in art education. Materials are often limited or of poor quality, which makes it difficult to support students in hands-on creative work. In addition, students come from very diverse social backgrounds, and many of them are more engaged with digital tools like smartphones than traditional learning methods.

    This pushes me to integrate technology into my teaching—using digital drawing apps, photography, and video editing to make art more accessible and relatable. Another issue is the limited time allocated for art in the curriculum, which restricts our ability to go in-depth or develop long-term creative projects.

    Despite these challenges, I try to create a space where students can think critically, express themselves freely, and become more responsible through art. In fact, I’m planning to apply this digital-based approach in my upcoming lessons to better engage my students and make learning more inclusive.

  • Hi Hendra! I teach high school ESL classes in the US. I definitely agree with the regulations and curriculum to be a challenge. In addition, there is too much emphasis on state testing. This provides constraints for ESL learners who just recently arrived to the US. I am incorporating a lot of project-based, collaborative learning and formative assessments; however, for the system only measures students' success using the state tests.

  • One of the main challenges I currently face in teaching is meeting the different learning needs of all students. Some students need extra support, while others are ready for more advanced tasks. Finding the right balance and keeping everyone engaged can be difficult. In the future, I also expect challenges related to technology integration and keeping up with new teaching methods.

    Hi! You're absolutely right, Hendra. Adapting to diverse student needs with limited time and resources is a real challenge. It often forces us to focus on covering content quickly rather than exploring topics creatively or engaging more deeply with students. Finding small, practical ways to differentiate instruction can help, but it's definitely a balancing act!

  • My fellow educators, thank you for all of these sharing! From the responses, there are some repeating or similarities points or factors that most of us are facing or familiar with.

    1. Lack of resources, due to internal limitations or external limitations (regulations, government's funding, political reasons, socio-cultural circumstances).

    2. Academics and parental expectations that could lead to overloading and overlapping responsibilities, which at the end could create exhaustion for the teachers.

    3. The ever-changing and growing curricula, which from time to time could create confusion and uncertainties of the future plan or progress for the schools and their teachers to focus on their apparent challenges and responsibilities. It is because, at times, the changes are not supporting positive progression, instead, it gives more unclear directions within our own region (local) or nationwide.

    In my humble opinion, the most fundamental and most urgent factor is to aligned the involved parties in education. Both the government and schools or educational providers should envisioned the same values, objectives, and plannings.

    As long as there are misaligned or even contrasting values or objectives, these challenges will always hinder the progress and growth of education. At times, the needs of teaching community could even be used as a vessel to gain some political objectives, which is actually sad.

    Turning or directing these needs to private sectors could also serve as two-sided blades. At one side, the speed of progress could be said faster in some context. However, on the other side, the costs of practicing such approaches could be high. At the end, the parents and the students will be faced with such high tuition fees. In some regions, the high costs of education is preventing or limiting access to education.

  • @Hendra One of the primary challenges faced in our classrooms is the necessity to deliver our curriculum in English as well as in national and regional languages. This multilingual approach complicates the instructional process, making it difficult for educators to effectively teach students in multiple languages simultaneously while ensuring the completion of the syllabus.

But Effective time management, prioritization, and resourcefulness are essential to overcome these challenges and provide high-quality education.
