From Paper to Pixels: How Are You Using Digital Tools in Art Education?

Hi everyone!
For the 2025 Teaching in the 21st Century competition, I’m designing a project that blends traditional visual arts with digital tools like smartphones, editing apps, and even AI. The idea is to help students explore different ways of representing reality. So they can be able to move from observation and realism to more imaginative, expressive styles.

I'm curious:
How are you integrating technology into your creative or art classes?
What tools or strategies have helped students engage, express, or reflect more deeply?

Your project sounds innovative and very timely! I also integrate technology into art classes by combining traditional drawing with digital tools like SketchBook, Canva, and AI-based image generators. This helps students shift from basic observation to more creative and expressive styles.
We use photo editing apps to explore composition, symbolism, and storytelling. Students also create digital portfolios using Google Sites or Canva, allowing them to reflect on their progress and share their work. For collaboration, tools like Padlet and Jamboard encourage peer feedback and idea sharing.

@Shaista-Begum Yes, it's a good approach. It can open many other tasks for discouvering new tools in new Apps. And that enhance creativity and curiosity.

@Sanaa well! Opening the way to AI in the art creation can make lazy students. But learning art by using specialised Apps can boost their creativity, reflective approach, made autonomy, shape the manner of thinking and behaving.

Procreate and Adobe Fresco are such great tools , I love how they make layering and effects feel intuitive for students.
I also really like your idea of video journals; it adds a personal touch to the process. I often use Snapseed, Canva, and sometimes Dream by Wombo for AI-based exploration. It’s amazing to see how tech helps students go from observation to imagination!
