• Encouraging effort, not just results!

What is the impact of comparing students with each other in the classroom? Does it have any psychological effects? I would love to know your thoughts on eliminating this practice.

  • @Noorfatima Comparing students with one another in the classroom can have several negative psychological effects. It often leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, and a fixed mindset in students who feel they’re “not good enough.” Instead of motivating them, constant comparisons may create unhealthy competition, jealousy, or even resentment not just towards others, but toward learning itself.

On the other hand, it may cause overconfidence or pressure in those who are frequently praised in comparison, making them fear failure or become reluctant to take risks.

  • Absolutely—it can have a big psychological impact. Constantly comparing students often leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, and a fear of failure. Every child learns at their own pace, and by recognizing individual growth instead of comparisons, we create a safer, more encouraging learning environment. Let’s uplift students for who they are, not how they rank.

  • Comparing students in the classroom can have significant psychological effects, often leading to anxiety, lowered self-esteem, and diminished motivation. While some may find competition motivating, constant comparisons can foster unhealthy pressure and create feelings of inadequacy among students who struggle to meet expectations. This practice can also discourage individuality and growth, shifting the focus from personal progress to external validation. Eliminating comparisons allows students to develop confidence in their own abilities, encouraging a more supportive and inclusive learning environment where each learner thrives at their own pace.

  • @MAHNOOR-Ali Totally agree!
Comparing students can damage self-worth and create toxic pressure. Every learner is unique. Let’s celebrate progress, not rankings. Encouraging effort builds confidence, resilience, and a love for learning. A growth mindset starts with recognition, not comparison
