    • RE: "Why Did I Do That? Exploring Impulsive Actions in School Settings"

      @Shaista-Begum
      Very good discussion on "Impulsive reactions" from students, teachers and parents. You've mentioned in detail not only these reactions and their impact on teaching learning but have mentioned reasons of these reactions and in the end have suggested remedies for these reactions. I appreciate your effort.

      Re: "Disobedience or Disconnection?"

      @Shaista-Begum
      No doubt you're tight. Teachers' positive bevavior and attention to students and parents' positive behavior and attention to their children makes them obedient and connected with them. Teachers' and parents' positive attention to children builds a tight bondage bwtween them.

    • Self-directed Learning

      Self-directed learning means taking charge of learning. This includes deciding what to learn, how to learn it and when to learn it. Anyone, whatever their age, can take part in self-directed learning.
      According to Stephen Brookfield (2009) Self-directed learning is learning in which the conceptualization, design, conduct and evaluation of a learning project are directed by the learner. This neans that the learner decides what to learn rather than a teacher or a higher authority.
      The person learning or developing themselves can be a student in a classroom, a teacher in a school or higher education authority like school principal /director etc.

      Skills for self-directed learning

      Self-directed learning involves some skills. In order to support teachers to be self-directed in their professional development, you need to understand and develop these skills too. These skills are mentioned below:

      1. Self evaluation.
      2. Critical thinking.
      3. Research.
      4. Goal setting.
      5. Planning.
      6. Time management.
      7. Problem solving.
      8. Technology proficiency.

      Teacher educator skills

      Self-directed learning involves areas for development as well as areas you are good at. You can then create a pathway, a set of actions and goals that develop the skills you need as a learner, teacher or teacher educator.

    • Managing Large Class

      How to manage a large class, in the context of language teaching, is no doubt challenging but right strategies are helpful in this respect. Here I tell you some tips to manage large class.

      1. Group work: Divide students in to small groups for activities.
      2. Incorporate Technology: Use tools like kahoot, padlet, googleclasdroom, quizziz etc.
      3. Implement Differentiated Instruction: Prepare material at different levels i,s basic, middle, advanced and ask students to choose tasks based on their comfort level.
      4. Use Flipped Classroom Model.
      5. Maximize Student Talk Time STT.
      6. Set clear routined and classroom rules.
      7. Use Peer Teaching and Student Leaders: Assign class leaders or monitors to help with attendance, group management and distribution of material.
      8. Design activities with clear goals.

    • Teaching Pronunciation

      Teaching Pronunciation
      Q: Why should we teach pronunciation?
      Ans: First let's learn the definition of pronunciation. "Pronunciation refers to how speach sounds, rhythm and intonation are produced to convey meaning. Pronunciation serves as a fundamental component of both speaking and listening abilities. To speak, we have to pronounce and to understand others, we have to understand and interpret their pronunciation.
      To what extent are pronunciation instruction and feedback actually effective?
      A combination of Form focused Instruction and corrective feedback improves the pronunciation development.
      Students recognise the importance of oral corrective feedback and seem less anxious about receiving it than their teachers do about providing it. (Darcy, 2018, p.28).
      Types of corrective feedback on pronunciation
      There are three types of corrective feedback on pronunciation. They are : Error correction feedback, Write on the board, Humming.
      1.Error correction feedback: These are of three types. They are : Recat, Repitition and asking for clarification.
      Recast: Here's and example of error correction feedback of Recast type.
      Student A: Why are you taking this course?
      Student B: Becsuse I want to deveLOP my english skills.
      Teacher (recasting): That's great it is important to deVElop your english skill step by step.
      Student B: Yeah.
      In this focus of correction is on "word stress"
      Repitition: In the same above dialogue the teacher repeats the sentence with rising intonation. " Becsuse I want tk deveLOP my english skills.
      Asking for clarification: In the above same dialogue teacher (requesting clarification): sorry, could you try the pronunciation of that verb again? Becsuse I want to......my english skills.
      These error correction techniques can work well considering they are well-timed and clear. Well-timed means is it enterrupting during task for pronunciation correction or can it be done delayed correction after the task? Clear means if a student does not recognise that a correction is being made (common with recast) the technique may not help.
      These error technique corrections may not work well if learners are corrected all the time. We are not able to correct the pronunciation mistakes of learners. It is neither manageable nor productive.
      2.Write on board: For example a student pronounce the word "were" as "where" the teacher writes the word "where" on board. The student prononce the same word as "war". Again the teacher writes the word "war" on board. At last student pronounce the word "were" correctly and teacher writes the correct word "were" on the board. In this way pronunciation is corrected by writing on board.
      3.Humming: In this technique when a student pronounce a word wrongly the teacher humms as "MM". The student realises that he has pronounced the word wrongly and he/she corrects it.

    • Definition of STEAM

      Re: 🎯 Title: "STEAM in Action: Turning Learning into Real-Life Impact!" 🌍📚

      @Tabbasum
      You have defined STEAM very well, clearing its concept in education. No doubt with the advent of STEAM in our schools it has revolutionized the conept of teaching learning by replacing old method of teaching i,e Teacher Centred with Student Centred. Now students have become researchers doing every thing by themselves. Teacher's role now is only a facilitator and guide. You are right in saying "now students think, create, solve and innovate". I'm also working in STEAM and have good experience of my students who took part in STEAM Competition, made projects of their own showing their creativity. My students won three prizes in three cstagories i,e Working Science Model, Design a musical Instrument and Postcard fro your hometown.

    • The Six Thinking Hats for Young Learners / Cognitive Domain of Bloom's Texonomy of Learning

      Re: [The Six Thinking Hats for Young Learners](/topic/1614/the@@Samia-mhad18 -six-thinking-hats-for-young-learners)

      @Samia-mhad18
      You have suggested very good thinking strategy for young learners. No doubt it would be very effective for young learners. I don't teach this age group of learners suggested by you so I don't have experience of it as I teach students of age group 13 to 17 years.
      Your strategy of teaching resembles with Cognitive Domain of Bloom's Texonony of Learning which also consists of six levels of learning which are: 1.Remenber 2. Understand 3. Apply 4. Analyse 5. Evaluate 6. Create.

    • Giving Feedback

      Q: Why is it important to give feedback?
      Ans: Feedback is not only received but it can be given also. In this article I'm going to talk about giving feedback.Creative feedback refers to the responses learners receive when they make errors or they want to know weaknesses of their areas of learning. It is considered a crucial element in teaching. It guides learners to notice errors/weaknesses of their areas of learning in their own output. It promotes the development of learners in their own subjects. So it is important to give feedback to learners so as they not only know their errors/weaknesses of their areas of learning but improve them also.

      Q: What is Assessing Learning ?
      Ans: Assessing Learning includes applying the principles and practice of assessment to design tasks to assess your learners' level and measure their progress taking in to account the assessment system used in your context and education policies and practice. It is about using types of assessment (e.g Formative assessment and Summative Assessment), and providing feedback for learning purpose.

    • Bloom's Texonomy of Learning Helpful in selection of Learning Objectives

      Bloom's Texonomy of Learning haas three domains. The first donain i,s Cognitive Domain which focuses on six levels is helpful in selection of Learning Objectives while coducting a training session/workshop to train teachers. How is it helpful? Let's begin:
      Leaning Objectives:
      By the end the workshop/ training teachers will be able to:

      1. Remember:
      2. Understand:
      3. Apply:
        4 Analyse:
      4. Evaluate:
      5. Create:
        These are the six levels of learning of the first domain of Bloom's Teaxonomy of Learning which is very helpful in selection of Learning Objectives while conducting a teachers' training workshop or session.

    • Non Verbal Communicstion v/s Verbal Communication

      Re: Using Non-Verbal Cues for Effective Classroom Control

      @Yousr261edd71b8 @Lubna8e2f861bdf @hushabbcd08705b @Bousl2336873cb4 @ateeque-soomro @MAHNOOR-Ali
      Yes non verbal communication plays very effective role. If we compare non verbal communication with verbal communication then non verbal communicstion's role is 75% where as verbal communication's role is 25%.
      When we talk about non verbal communication it should be positive. Non verbal communication can be positve as well as as negative. Positive non verbal communication is effective where as negative non verbal communication leaves negative effects. So in a classroom a teacher's gestures, body language should be positive.

      Very well explanation of humanity suggested by you. Let me have a courage to apply humanity to others, particularly school students. Students are innocent. They need sympathy. I think a good teacher is one who who shows humanity to his/her students. This is such a quality of a person which impress others. So teachers must show kind humanity to students so as they can take interest in learning and learn more and more without any fear. Because kills their mental abilities.

      Re: How to Evolute the project of others regards compitation

      @Rafia-Khokhar
      To evaluate the projects of others you should keep in mind four things; (1) Relevance (2) Scability (3) Innovstion and (4) Interactivity
      (1) Is it related with the topic? Does it reflect the topic?
      (2) can it be replicated to other schools?
      (3) Is it innovative?
      (4) Is the content interacting?
      Keeping these four things projects of others are evaluated. You should give weightage to each when evaluating.
