• Use of smart phones in class

That's a valid concern about distraction. While smartphones offer educational potential, the pull of games and social media is strong. Notifications definitely disrupt focus too. It's a tricky balance between leveraging technology and minimizing distractions in the classroom.

  • In my country Ghana, learners are not allow to use smartphones in the class, this policy end up to the tertiary where student are feel to do so. I personal agreed with this policy because as a tech Savvy like me, I understand the consequences of using smart phone in class especially High school, can bring i.e Irrelevant content, distraction in class etc.., I always agreed to the point that until learners are monitored and strict cyber security measures are putting in place in Ghana, learners should not be allowed to use smartphone in the class.

  • Yes, students should not be allowed to use their mobile phones frequently. Notifications distract and disturb. But some how we can not deny the importance of mobile phones.
These days, many programs are integrated in this smart device. Your mobile phone is a calculator, a watch, your assistant, and other resources that can be beneficial in the classroom.
Through mobile phone a student is connected with the world and can do research on a project instantly, download studies related material and watch videos.
Hence if the mobile phones are used on a given time with permission, then it is ok, if not then they create disturbance in the class.

  • @Ridafatima95 The use of smartphones in the classroom can have several drawbacks, including distractions, decreased attention span, and potential for cheating. Excessive smartphone use can also lead to social isolation, decreased face-to-face interaction, and blurred boundaries between personal and academic life. Additionally, it can negatively impact students' cognitive abilities, such as memory and critical thinking, and may also lead to cyberbullying or online safety concerns.

  • @Ridafatima95 Smartphones can be helpful if used the right way, like for looking up information or learning apps. But they can also be distracting with games and messages. It’s important to set clear rules so students stay focused during class.

  • @Ridafatima95 Smartphones in class can be a double-edged sword. While they offer useful educational tools, distractions from games and social media are common. Clear guidelines and monitored use can help balance benefits and minimize disruptions.

  • @Samuel-Atta-Okoh Dear sir use the alternate option for active learning like book study, model preparation.Any Topic presentation during class.

  • Smartphones can be useful for learning but often cause distractions. It's better to allow them in class only with strict rules and for specific educational activities to keep students focused.

  • @Sanaa absolutely right

As a teacher, I believe smartphones can be a double-edged sword in the classroom. While they offer vast educational resources and opportunities for learning, they can also be significant distractions, hindering students' focus and productivity. To maximize their potential benefits, I think it's essential to establish strict rules and guidelines for smartphone use in class, limiting it to specific educational activities that align with the lesson objectives. By doing so, we can harness the power of technology to enhance learning while minimizing distractions and promoting responsible device use. This balanced approach can help students develop essential skills in digital literacy and self-regulation.
