• Teaching strategy: Compound words

How can we teach compound words to primary level students?
Make two groups of class and divide these two groups in sub group of 2 students give them 1st part of word and the other students give them 2nd part After this, students will come one by one, the first student will say the first word, the second student will say the second word, and both students will combine clapping to form a new word. Through this strategy, children can learn compound words in a fantastic way.
I try this method in my classroom I hope you all try it in your classrooms

  • @Namra what a creative and engaging way to teach compound words
I love how this method makes learning interactive, collaborative, and fun. Dividing students into pairs and using movement (like clapping) to combine the words not only reinforces the concept but also helps with memory and participation, especially for young learners.

It’s a great example of learning through play, and it encourages teamwork and communication too. I’m definitely going to try this in my classroom. Thank you for sharing such a simple yet effective strategy.

  • @Namra Once students understand blending, introduce segmenting (breaking a compound word into its two smaller words).

  • Thank you for sharing this fun and interactive teaching strategy! 🙌
I really like how your activity encourages collaboration, movement, and engagement—all essential elements for young learners. Using clapping 👏 and peer interaction not only helps in reinforcing the concept of compound words but also adds an element of play-based learning, which is so effective at the primary level.
I can imagine how excited students must be to participate, and it’s a great way to make word formation memorable. I’m definitely going to try this out in my classroom too—perhaps with picture cards or flashcards to support visual learners as well.
