Hello my dear E tech forum fellows
Today I want to discuss about impact of technology on child's social and emotional development. I think nowadays children are exposed to the world of excitement and innovation.a child develops socially when he interacts with the world around him.And technology gave confidence to children to interact with people and expose and share the feelings with the world around them. Socially a child has become more interactive. Well as far as emotional development
is concerned the more they are exposed to the world they are more emotionally disturb.
Because mostly children have desire to have well equipped environment that meets with recent technological needs but those who are deprived of it , emotionally go into feeling of lose.
My question for other members is how can we go with low cost ICT assistive tools .? So that a child grows healthy socially and emotionaly and the atmosphere can be inclusive for everyone one.

Impact of technology on child's social and emotional development

Hi Mariam,
Hope everything is going well,
You've raised some important points about the impact of technology on children's social and emotional development. It's true that technology can boost social interaction and confidence by providing platforms for communication and self-expression. As an interest for my students with autism, I use technology as abridge for them to connect with the world. However, the emotional consequences of unequal access to technology are concerning, as children who lack these resources might feel left out or disadvantaged.
To address your question about low-cost ICT assistive tools, there are several strategies we can consider. First, we can explore open-source software and free educational apps that provide similar benefits to more expensive options.
As a CATIS I could give you some examples for your students if you want. Additionally, community programs or school partnerships with tech companies might offer donated or discounted devices. Another approach is to advocate for policies that support equitable access to technology in education.
By sharing resources, creating community tech hubs, and utilizing budget-friendly tools, we can help ensure that all children have the opportunity to grow both socially and emotionally in an inclusive environment.
Best,
Mr. Bryan -
@BRYANb8875625e5 yes sir I totally agree with you . Such schools like mine should also be given more attention from higher authorities and first supply of ICT equipped labs must be placed so that teaching learning process can go smoothly.

Hi, I completely agree that technology has provided children with new ways to interact and express themselves. The confidence they gain from these interactions can be incredibly beneficial for their social development. For me, I personally would go for Mobile Technology, given the widespread use of smartphones, educational apps and mobile-friendly websites can be a cost-effective way to provide learning opportunities.

Good luck on that proposal. Giving feedback is part of our efforts to make a better world through education.
Best,

Hello Mariam,
You have raised an interesting topic, the impact of technology on the socio-emotional development of the child. Firstly, I want to point out that technology has a significant impact on the emotional development of the child. Those who can't afford these facilities feel excluded and lose interest. So it's our prime duty as innovators and facilitators to provide a supportive environment. Free educational apps can intensively be used in the classroom. These apps are really useful. You mentioned about the provision of ICT labs, indeed it is a long process by higher authorities. I will propose you to download free educational apps on your smartphone and with the approval of parents share it with your pupils. Create small groups in your classroom and use your smartphone to conduct your class.

hello Mariam
Technology can have various impacts on a child's social and emotional development. It can affect their brain, cognitive, socio-emotional, and physical development. While technology can offer educational benefits and social connectivity, excessive or inappropriate use may lead to issues such as reduced attention spans, impaired social skills, and emotional detachment.CHOKRI from TUNISIA

The impact of technology on a child's social and emotional development is profound. Excessive screen time can hinder face-to-face social interaction, potentially delaying emotional development. For instance, a child who spends hours gaming online may struggle to empathize with peers offline. Additionally, cyberbullying on digital platforms can cause significant emotional distress, impacting a child's well-being. Moreover, exposure to unrealistic beauty standards on social media can lead to poor self-esteem and body image issues. Effective management of screen time and promoting real-world interactions are vital for nurturing healthy social and emotional development in children amidst the digital age.

@Bousl2336873cb4 true sir . I also agree with your Ideas .
-
@Housna hello . I really appreciate your idea . I would like to add here that in our school as I have mentioned no facility of ICT labs so we just use mobile phone. And parents really get happy when ever a ask my children to bring their parents mobile so that I can teach you how to interact with the world so that they know about exposure of the world of knowledge and learning. If it available then I show them from my mobile.

Hi Mariam,
Hope everything is going well.Nowadays cellphones are essential in the day to day, but in the classroom evolves as an educational tool. Then we have a big relevance as educators to guide the use of technology for good. As a certified assistive technology instructional specialist, I transform it into a central resource for normalization.
It is amazing what we can get just having a cellphone-

Hello Mariam,
Learning is more fun when the use of technology is made. There is also the facility of screen enlarger, you can put it in front of your smartphone. For instance if you are explaining the topic Volcano, pupils can view the eruption in a larger format through the screen enlarger. It's really useful. As your school is not fully equipped technologically, you can use the screen enlarger. -
Good discussion has been done on the topic " Influence of technology on child's social and emotional development". I'm of the opinion that technology has influenced a child's soco emotional developmen positively as well as negatively depending on its usage. But the question is of those students who don't have access to technology. The problem of right or wrong usage of technology can be solved to some extent but the problem of avaiability of technology to every student is very difficult to be solved. That's why students hailing from backward areas are far behind in this digital work. A teacher alone or even a headteacher can not solve this problem.

@Mariam I agree that technology has both positive and negative impacts on children's development. To address the emotional challenges, we can implement low-cost ICT tools like refurbished devices, open-source educational software, and community-based tech programs. These solutions can ensure all children have access to essential technology, fostering an inclusive environment. It's crucial to balance tech use with offline activities to support well-rounded social and emotional growth.
