    @Erum Zahid

I’m Erum Zahid and I’m from Pakistan 🇵🇰.

I work as a Junior Elementary School Teacher at a government school. What I love most about my job is making science meaningful and engaging for my students, especially by using hands-on activities and real-life examples.

Recently, I was honored to receive the "Visionary Teacher" title in a national competition for Best Teaching Practices. It was a proud moment to have my efforts recognized at such a high level!

In my free time, I enjoy music 🎵, exploring hands-on activities/worksheets for my kids, working on educational projects, participating in online trainings, competitions with my students, and learning about tools to bring technology into the classroom. I also like reading and exploring creative ways to enhance teaching.

Excited to connect and learn with all of you here! 😊

    • Connecting Classrooms to Real Life: Making Learning Effective Through Everyday Real Life Examples

At our school, we've discovered that linking lessons to real-life examples transforms how students engage with learning. Whether it's explaining chemical reactions through cooking, teaching geometry by showing home layouts, or exploring environmental science through local issues like water conservation, students are found more curious, engaged, motivated, and involved.

Please share your favorite real-life examples used in the classroom or any innovative ideas that helped you make learning more meaningful and relatable for your students. What difference have you observed when students learn this way?

Let’s share experiences and inspire one another to build stronger learning connections for our students every day!

    • RE: Emotional Intelligence

      Hi dear,
Yes, it should be the key subject for the teaching in school, of not in the form of subject then at least should be the part of counselling member. Every time when we are dealing, motivating, acquiring answers from students, we are actually dealing with their emotions. This should not only be taught for students but for teachers too. for a healthy and smooth school environment, learning emotional intelligence is necessary for teacher and student both.

    • Rebuilding Moral Values and Social Skills in the Age of Technology

In today’s fast-paced, technology-driven classrooms where students are more digitally connected than ever.

Are we paying enough attention to their moral development and social well-being?

How can we balance digital learning with activities that promote moral and social development?

Can technology itself be used to promote values based education? If yes, how?

Let’s support each other in nurturing not just smart, but also kind and responsible future citizens.

    • RE: Developing intrinsic motivation among learners

I really appreciate your strategy of increasing difficulty level, the more comfortable the child feels in class, the more he/she likely to engage or learn. One strategy could be make a group of these learners and initiate competitions in them for writing, reading and speaking, based on low level difficulties and the increase the difficulty level.

    • RE: Use of smart phones in class

      Hello!
What I believe is use of smart phones in junior classes won't be that much distracting, like students follow the instructions of teachers, guide them to open the required website/link, they will follow whatever instructed by teacher. For High school students, you need to be focused and have strong communication with them, give them time limit to read/explore, this will also be helpful, so that they won't go for browsing other stuff on smart phone.

    • RE: Sparking Change: Classroom Conversations on Girls’ Education

Yes, recently we have invited the officers from Traffic police department in our school to motivate our students about their profession, teaching traffic signals and signs to protect them. The best part was the appearance of lady officer who presented her journey to the girls and motivate them to not only focused for teaching, engineering, or medical as their career but traffic police department is also equally important and welcomed girls to take this profession as their career.

    • RE: Project Based learning v/s Discussion Based Learning

      Hi dear,
Both methods can be applied for grade 9 and 10 students depending upon the need and demand of SLOs of any given subject. For real life problems, project based learning will go good however for linguistic subjects, students need to explore and share their ideas in the form of discussions.

    • RE: Reducing Test Anxiety Through Practice and Support

Surely, you can reduce test anxiety by creating a collaborative learning environment in the class, you can assess the students while teaching and don't letting them know they are being assessed, however for summative assessment you can motivate them by means of appreciation or some sort of rewards. This will also create a healthy competition and encourage the students to give their best.

Agreed, but at the same time, we have to consider the age group of students also. For pre-primary and primary classes, it can be an effective way to transfer information and knowledge due to their visuals and audio effects.

      Hi dear,
The best way for these introverts is to make them sit in peer or groups, in collaborative learning, they come up with some extra-ordinary ideas which they are reluctant to speak in front of whole class, however in peers or groups they can easily share their ideas.

    • RE: Why SLO based lesson plan is more effective?

      Hi dear,
Obviously, SLO plays the role of your destination where you want to reach, without prior work, estimations, route analysis, you can't achieve your destiny. SLO provides guidance to think of strategies as per the lesson, differentiating instructions as per the need of students and lastly to check if you have achieved in the end what you have planned or work out in the beginning.
