• Enhancing Student Speaking Skills: Traditional and Technological Practices

Speaking skills are critical for effective communication, particularly for students who lack confidence. Teachers can develop these skills through a mix of traditional methods and modern technology.
    Weekly Practices

    1. Role-Playing: Assigning characters and scenarios helps students practice structured speaking.
    2. Pair Work: Pairing students to converse builds confidence in a supportive environment.
    3. Group Discussions: Encouraging students to share ideas in groups improves clarity and fluency.
    4. Presentations: Regular presentations enhance articulation and expressive abilities.
      Tech-Based Methods
    5. AI Speech Assistants: Tools like Google Assistant provide pronunciation feedback.
    6. Language Apps: Platforms like Duolingo offer real-life conversational practice.
    7. Virtual Classrooms: Tools like Zoom enable speaking practice with peers from diverse locations.
    8. Gamification: Interactive games, such as Kahoot!, engage students in voice-based activities.

Combining weekly or biweekly classroom practices with technological tools can significantly improve speaking skills, particularly for students with low speaking traits. This integrated approach ensures they gain the confidence to communicate effectively.

Please let me know in the comments, what type of techniques you have used to build up speaking skills among low confident students in your class room?

  • I have used Role Playing, Pair Work, Group Discussion and Presentation to improve speaking skill of students as they don't have access to teachnology. I have advised those students to use AI tools to improve speaking skill who have access to technology at home.
