Gamification in Education: A Healthy, Zero-Cost Approach
By: Zeeshan Asghar Palijo – High School Teacher at GBHS MAHT, Makli District Thatta, Province Sindh, Pakistan.
In an age where students are overwhelmed by screen time, leading to eye strain and serious mental and physical health issues, I have developed and introduced a zero-cost, activity-based gamified teaching methodology. This approach is designed to reduce screen dependency, while maintaining students’ interest and engagement in learning.
    What Is It?
This gamified learning technique is a student-centered, indirect approach that transforms the traditional classroom into an interactive and dynamic learning environment. By turning educational content into fun and meaningful games, students actively participate, collaborate, and compete—without the need for digital devices.
    Why Gamification?
Gamification taps into students’ natural instincts for play and competition. It:
    • Makes learning engaging and fun
    • Builds intrinsic motivation
    • Enhances memory and understanding through experiential learning
    • Encourages active participation
    Core Benefits:
Through various classroom games and activities, teachers can foster essential 21st-century skills such as:
    • Teamwork
    • Collaboration
    • Communication
    • Creativity
    • Critical thinking
    Key Features:
    • Zero cost – No extra resources needed
    • Healthy – Reduces screen time, promotes movement and interaction
    • Inclusive – Suitable for diverse learning styles and abilities
    • Adaptable – Can be integrated into any subject or topic
