How to become a Greener Teacher? (not the Grinch Teacher :)

To be a greener teacher we need to make our students the little green stars of environment. That means making our students able to do eco friendly work and the little practical approach to make our environment sustainable. Some of Idea could be,
1 ) students should be given a system of ranking in school with title of warrior against pollution.lets see who will keep the school and neighbourhood more clean and take actions against pollution.
2) working on energy saving activities at least once in a week .
3) celebrate once in a year then plantation day
To tag a plant with students name and nurture it by taking care of it when it grows it gives big contributions towards greening our environment.
The activities could be published so that all the schools should take initiative to make our environment sustainable.
The teacher along with little green stars can contribute to be a greener teacher.

Collaboration is my most appreciated value at school. I can’t do anything alone that could transform an entire system. By working together, we can infuse sustainability concepts across subjects. Dear Ana,
By promoting eco-projects at school and involving the community, it will create an awareness of protecting the environment. The teacher will become greener and sensitize learners about the importance of keeping the environment clean. With the collaboration of the school administrators and NGOs, a gardening project ( for instance Medicinal plants or vegetables such as lettuce) can be encouraged. Today 5th June 2024, it's the World Environment Day, at school a talk can be organised in the morning assemby about the impacts of Climate Change and Global Warming ( these topics are already included in our primary school curriculum) as well as on the theme proposed by the UN for this year which is highlighted below.

Infact. every year World Environment Day is celebrated with a specific theme targeting the immediate problems – from climate change to global warming to deforestation.

This year, the theme of World Environment Day is - Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.

"According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, up to 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded, directly affecting half of the world’s population. The number and duration of droughts has increased by 29 per cent since 2000 – without urgent action, droughts may affect over three-quarters of the world's population by 2050," wrote the United Nations on their official website.

When you mentioned publishing information about school activities, I immediately thought of two things:

1. Creating a working group of students who could be responsible for the virtual dissemination of information about environmental activities in their school, such as working with the school's website or social media.

2. Organizing a local green network of schools to exchange good practices and ideas.I believe it could start with 2-3 partner schools or teachers, and then grow from there.

Alternatively, we could use this forum as a platform for broader online networking among the schools (and students) internationally. As we already have many motivated colleagues!

How to become a green teacher?
To become a green teacher I'll suggest my own ideas. We have students hailing from rural areas. Their parents are mostly farmers who work in their fields. They not only grow diffent crops but also plant trees of different kinds in mango garden, guavas garden, Berries garden etc. And also plant neem trees, acacias trees etc. Their children help them with their work. So these students already know tree plantation. These students should be given tasks to bring different kinds of trees and plants to school. Then at school they should be given tasks of preparing garden in school with other students living in cities who don't know planting a tree. The students who know this will teach them this work. In this way to become a green teacher a teacher can carry out different environment friendly activities at school as well as out of school engaging his/her students busy at school as well as out of school. Moreover students should given different projects of energy conservation and recycling.

Thanks for sharing these great ideas.
I opt for the second option, ie, organising a local green corner of 2 or 3 schools where teachers can share their ideas for Eco school projects. Educators can share their best practices concerning promoting green environment at school where pupils, teachers and the community will be involved.

Preserving our environment is no more a choice, it is a necessity. Our environment is facing a serious threat due to the increasing population, pollution, and misuse of technology. Therefore, it is imperative to educate our future generation about the various ways to maintain and save the environment. One way of protecting our environment can be by observing the three ‘R’s’ namely Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Following eco-friendly practices at home can not only make kids understand the concept of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle but may also encourage the kids to adopt and apply it to their everyday life. Making our kids aware of the importance of reducing, reuse, and recycle may be a positive step towards saving our environment. But how do you formulate the concept of reduce, reuse, and recycle for kids by simpler means so that kids can grasp the sense properly? Here I proudly share a few things that can recycled or upcycled materials to make successful crafts projects, it helps them learn the importance of reusing or conserving earth's resources. This is a lesson that they will carry with themselves all throughout their lives and make them better global citizens of the future.
