Socio-emotional learning (SEL) consistently comes to mind as a foundational element for student success. Many of you are likely familiar with the "Wheel of SEL" (often associated with CASEL's framework), which typically outlines five core competencies: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision-Making.
This framework offers such a powerful lens through which to view our practice.
Instead of viewing SEL as a separate subject, how can we more intentionally weave these competencies into our existing curriculum, no matter the subject?

Think about your primary subject area(s). How could you design a lesson or activity that explicitly requires students to practice, for example, "Responsible Decision-Making" in a math problem, or "Social Awareness" in a history discussion?

What are some of the subtle, yet powerful, ways you foster "Self-Awareness" or "Self-Management" even when teaching academic content?
Let's challenge ourselves to think beyond standalone SEL lessons and explore how the SEL wheel can enrich every facet of our teaching.
Eager to read your innovative ideas,
